Princess Serenity lived in the Moon Kingdom during the Silver Millennium as the daughter of Queen Serenity, who ruled the Silver Millennium and watched over the Earth. She is the preincarnation of Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon). Her guardians and closest friends were Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus, who were princesses of their own respective planets, but lived on the moon with her at times.
Princess Serenity has blue eyes, and long silvery white hair done up in odangos, a trait shown to have carried over in her subsequent incarnations, and is shown wearing a white Empire Silhouette gown having a heavily decorated bodice. She wears a golden crescent moon (symbol of the Moon Kingdom) on her forehead and golden earrings. She has a beaded bracelet on her right wrist.
Serenity was fascinated by the Earth. Even though she was given orders not to go to the planet, she secretly visited there and met Prince Endymion. The two then fell in love.
During the Dark Kingdom's attack which caused the Moon Kingdom's downfall, Prince Endymion died protecting Serenity. She fell into an extreme grief due to Endymion's death, and committed suicide. Serenity's mother, the Queen, sealed away the evil and the moon in order to save the rest of the solar syste, though unfortunately everyone involved on the moon perished.
Before her own death, the Queen used the Silver Crystal to give her daughter and others another chance at life, hoping in particular that, this time, Serenity and Endymion could find happiness together

Moon Castle: The Moon Castle was the home of the royal family during the Silver Millennium on the Moon. Inhabitants include Queen Serenity and Princess Serenity, as well as many other subjects. The Inner Senshi and the feline advisors, Luna and Artemis, also resided in this palace. It was guarded, along with the rest of the Solar system, from outside invaders by Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and Sailor Pluto, though those Senshi were not known by the vast majority of those of the Inner Kingdoms, including that of the Moon.
Moon Kingdom: The royal family of the Moon Kingdom during the Silver Millennium bear on their foreheads special markings shaped like small crescent moons. These appear on Queen Serenity, Princess/Neo-Queen Serenity, and Chibiusa Small Lady, as well as Sailor Venus when disguised as the princess and the moon cats - Luna, Artemis and Diana. In the anime, non-royal civilians of the Moon Kingdom lack the symbol on their foreheads.
The Silver Millennium was a peaceful time period during the prehistoric age when the Moon Kingdom existed in harmony, along with the rest of the planets of the Solar System.
A second Silver Millennium will appear on Earth some time between the 20th and 30th centuries, this time centered in Crystal Tokyo.
Silver Millennium Kingdoms: The original Silver Millennium, which existed thousands of years ago, is portrayed as an ancient Golden Age, marked by peace, prosperity, and good relationships between the people of Earth and Moon. The Moon Kingdom itself, ruled by Queen Serenity, centered in Mare Serenitatis (the Sea of Serenity) was also home to Princess Serenity and her four guardians, later to be known as the Sailor Senshi. The Outer Senshi, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, were guardians who had defended the Moon Kingdom from invaders from beyond the solar system, while Sailor Pluto protected the Time Gate. The Outer Senshi had stayed in separate, of the Moon Castle with their talismans.
The Moon Kingdom during the Silver Millennium, during this era Endymion, flanked by his four guardians, held the position of First Crown Prince of Earth. Despite a prohibition on relations between people of the Earth and the Moon, he and Princess Serenity fell in love.
The Dark Kingdom was ultimately responsible for the fall of the first Moon Kingdom. Out of jealousy and under the influence of the evil Queen Metalia, a sorceress named Beryl raised up the citizens of Earth in a war against the Moon. As a result, the Moon Kingdom was completely destroyed, with Prince Endymion, Princess Serenity and her guardians all dying in the battle. The war was the end of the First Silver Millennium.
When it seemed all hope was lost, the Queen used the Silver Crystal to seal away the Dark Kingdom's powers and sent her daughter, Prince Endymion, and the Guardian Senshi to be reborn on Earth during the 20th century. This all came at the cost of her own life though.
The prince and princess were reincarnated as Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba and even before they recovered their memories, they succeed in finding each other once again. The reincarnated Sailor Senshi become close friends with Usagi; through their efforts, the reinstated Dark Kingdom and even Metalia herself are destroyed.
